Valenciso Rioja Spain

Valenciso Rioja

After 15 years of working together in a prestigious 100 year old Rioja wine cellar of international prominence, Luis Valentin and Carmen Enciso decided to create their own wine cellar that would reflect their experience and their own personal vision of what winemaking should be. Valenciso Rioja is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes. Strict standards of cultivation that range from pruning, to the harvest, and low yields per hectare, are observed. Generally speaking, the lesser the yield of the vineyard, the greater the quality of the grapes. In the aging of the Valenciso Rioja, the style of the wine, age of the barriques, and the origin of the oak are all considered. Valenciso only uses brand new barriques; 3/4 are made of French oak, 1/4 from American oak. New barriques are purchased every year and are used for only three years, with one-third of these being renewed annually. New barriques give the wine soft tannins, fine and elegant, and provides the "roundness" of the wine. American oak is used in small, carefully monitored proportions to give a note of strength of the palate. The length of aging is decided by frequently tasting the wine, however, the time the wine spends in these barrel agings is between 12 to 18 months, depending on the characteristics of each vintage.

Valenciso Rioja

Rioja
This is a complex wine, yet subtle and elegant, with a soft bouquet, and beautiful color. 100% Tempranillo. It is round, delicate, yet persistent, with a velvety structure. Valenciso Rioja is at the summit of quality and can be enjoyed now or cellared for many years. This beautiful red wine compliments red meats, game and cheeses. Decanting is recommended before serving at room temperature.
