Cascina Bruni Piedmonte Region, Italy

Cascina Bruni Barolo
This Nebbiolo varietal excels on the hills of the Serralunga d'Alba, in a soil of calcareous marl with a high content of lime and iron, where the snowcapped Alps provide a dramatic backdrop. These hills afford the Nebbiolo a long growing season which is necessary for this particular varietal to achieve full ripeness. However, to endure the damp foggy mornings of the Serralunga in late October, nature has provided the Nebbiolo with a thick tough skin. It is in this skin that resides the tannins that are characteristic of the wine of the Nebbiolo grape.
This is the birthplace of the great Barolo, a wine that in Italy for many years was cast in the role of King, and in maintaining its regal bearing, was, in the years past, saved in the Italian household for "special occasions".
In these hills of the Serralunga lies the famed estate of Cascina Bruni, owned by the renowned winemaker Giuseppe Veglio. From his select vineyard "Vigna Batistot" he has produced the greatest of the Barolo "crus". The production of this select vineyard is only about 2000 bottles per year. His Bricco Rosso Barolo is made of grapes from 4 vineyards, Vigna Batistot, Vigna Marialunga, Vigna Pilone and Vigna Rivassotto.
Giuseppe Veglio is truly an artist in winemaking and vinification.
The fermentation of his grapes is conducted under controlled temperatures in stainless steel vats and the amount of time in contact with the skins has been shortened to less than a month. This method manages to maintain the size and structure of the wine while showing better harmony of bouquet and flavor. The wine is then further aged in oak casks for a minimum of two years.
Barolo could never be common, and with the skilled craftsmanship and artistry of Giuseppe and his two sons, Fulvio and Cristiano, Cascina Bruni Barolo truly ranks as KING.

When the wine is young, it will often show ruby or even blackberry color, but after a few years of age it becomes a medium garnet with a warm brick red rim.
Barolo is round, harmonious and with a bracingly firm edge. The palate will often detect the taste of violets, wild berries, vanilla, chocolate, mint, licorice and all manner of spices.
An exquisite compliment to roasted meats, game, poultry, and spicy cheese dishes.
Uncork 2 to 3 hours before serving and serve at room temperature.

Bricco Rosso
Bricco Rosso is a Barolo that is made from the grapes of four different vineyards - Vigna Batistot, Vigna Marialunga, Vigna Pilone and Vigna Rivassotto which makes it an overall estate bottled Barolo.
While Barolos usually require many years of cellaring in order to bring out all the best qualities they have to offer, Bricco Rosso may be enjoyed much younger. It is a more relaxed, faster maturing Barolo that doesn't need many years to age.
It is warmer, easier and softer as a young Barolo. Even though it is considered "young" it must, by law, be three years old before its release.
Barolo could never be a common wine, and the skilled craftsmanship and artistry of Giuseppe and his two sons, Fulvio and Cristiano, prove that in this marvelously beautiful Bricco Rosso Barolo.
This wine is a beautiful ruby red color and while it is a "big red" wine it is smooth and gentle on the palate.
One may detect all manner of nuances of violets, wild berries, vanilla, chocolate and spices in both the aroma and the flavor. Compliments roasted meats, game, poultry and cheeses.
In order to enjoy all that this beautiful wine has to offer, it is recommended that it be uncorked to breath for 2 hours before serving and to serve at room temperature.
